The trek starts with a 10 km hike through dense bamboo forests, home to wildlife like colobus monkeys and exotic birds. Children will enjoy spotting these creatures while walking beneath towering bamboo canopies. The trail is manageable and engaging, with plenty of breaks to explore and learn about the forest’s ecology. The day ends at the Meru Mount Kenya Bandas, where cozy cabins and delicious meals await.


Day 2: Mount Kenya Bandas to Lake Ellis Campsite (3,450m)
After breakfast, the journey continues with a gradual 9 km ascent, gaining 550m in altitude. The route offers gentle gradients, making it family-friendly while still rewarding with stunning views. Passing through grasslands and clear streams, children can enjoy safe, hands-on interactions with nature, including learning about unique mountain flora like giant lobelias.

The highlight of the day is Lake Ellis, a serene alpine lake framed by rugged peaks. The campsite at 3,450m offers a clear night sky, perfect for storytelling and stargazing.


Day 3: Lake Ellis to Mintos Camp (4,200m)
This 12 km hike climbs 750m and offers a mix of challenging and easy stretches, making it adaptable for families. Following a scenic ridge, trekkers are rewarded with spectacular views of the Gorges Valley and the Northern Moorlands. The route’s flora and fauna, including rare bird species like the Alpine Chat, keep children engaged.

Upon reaching Mintos Camp, families can explore the “Temple,” a towering 150m cliff offering breathtaking views. Day 4: Summit Day – Mintos to Point Lenana (4,985m), Descent to Old Moses Camp (3,300m)
The day starts early, with a 3:00 am trek to Point Lenana. The summit trail, though steep, is manageable with steady pacing and determination. Families with children can plan for shorter breaks, with guides ensuring everyone stays motivated and hydrated.

Reaching Point Lenana as the sun rises is a magical experience for all ages, offering a sense of achievement and unforgettable panoramic views. The descent to Shipton Camp for breakfast and onward to Old Moses Camp (3,300m) is a gradual 19 km journey, allowing ample time to appreciate the lush moorlands and dramatic valleys.


Day 5: Old Moses Camp to Nairobi
After breakfast, the trek concludes with a drive back to Nairobi. Families can take this time to reflect on the adventure, sharing stories of the summit and the wonders of Mount Kenya. You’ll arrive in Nairobi by late afternoon, carrying memories that will last a lifetime.
